Bob
Wilson, a longtime supporter and member of SWBA, contributed
cartoons to our newsletter, the BLUEGRASS
SOUNDBOARD,
for
nearly twenty years, much to the delight and amusement of our
readers. He is greatly missed.
Bob was born in
Weaverville, CA, where he worked for Contel. In 1969, he
was transferred to Victorville, where he advanced to senior
engineer. He retired in 1991, after 31 years.
Bob's
two loves, besides Barbara and his children, were art and
music. His creative mind and humor were well known to
his many friends and SWBA members. In his neighborhood, you
will still find many unique mailboxes that he painted.
He was also a fine musician, playing both the fiddle and
guitar. His "camp" at festivals was always
welcoming to all who dropped by to talk, or jam.
Bob
proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean
War.
When
SWBA first established a web site on the internet, including
pages of Bob's cartoons was an obvious thing to do. And
when those pages were first posted, this is what Bob wrote to
go on the first page:
I'm Bob Wilson with my beautiful wife
Barbara. I do the
Cartooneroonies that appear in the SWBA Soundboard. Barbara is my art director,
without her I'm sure my drawings would get way out of hand! I started doing
cartoons for SWBA after I retired a few years ago. And I can tell
you, with this FUN
bunch of people, I never run out of material. SWBA is a non-profit volunteer
organization dedicated to the preservation and promotion of bluegrass music. Barbara and I
are proud to be a part of such a great family. JOIN UP, you'll love it.
Here are a few of the cartoons that I have done lately. ENJOY!!
Thank you Bob, we
do!
